Title: Hi, to everyone, I'm a Brit living in America Post by P0300misfire on Sep 10th, 2025 at 6:22pm
a bit of history condensed, I'm 58 now, and had my first paying customer at the age of 12.
spent 9 years at college, 2 years half day release from school, next 7 either full time, or as an apprentice. moved to America about 25 years ago now, to marry my ex, everyone is allowed one major mistake in their life. Currently work at Frito Lay as a GTL (group technical lead), basically i am expected to fix everything other people cannot and keep my assigned vehicles on the road. started working with oscilloscopes back when Sun first came out with them, it was as big as a 72" snapon box with a top on it, required 240v 15 amp plug to power it. currently have about 4 oscilloscopes, finally made the jump to pico 4425a. hope everyone is staying well, will try to help if i can. |

Welcome "P0300misfire". Care to share your first name?
I've been working since an early age as well, though I was throwing newspapers and working on my bicycle. What types of vehicles are in the Frito Lay fleet in Grand Rapids? Hope to see you at the Nerdz Conference on Sep 20th! |

My first name is Alan, but usually get called The Brit, most of my vendors know me as the damn foreigner.
as for my fleet... 2006-2009 e350 bread vans and cutaways 2009-2014 Sprinters 4 and 6 cyl, def and non def 2018-2024 transits, diesels and gas, some locations have electric transits as well 2012-2014 Hino 238 2018 peterbilt m220 2024-2025 isuzu ftr we use geotab for tracking, i use it for diagnostics. love that i can see the engine codes and a bunch of data on any vehicle in our region. before i go any where i look at geotab check the faults, load up my van with the tools and probable parts i might need. i currently am responsible for 3 locations 100%, the only thing i send out are alignments and engine/trans swaps as corporate pays for them. i do everything else. as GTL i am expected to assist any where in the state of Michigan, so being able to check the codes before i leave makes a huge difference. |
