Thanks for asking, Ronnie.  

We are surrounded by destruction but untouched by it.  Trees down, roads washed away, deep water everywhere...even interstate 5 is five feet under water.  Whole counties cut off from the world, buildings washed away, people killed.  Worst ever.  

You would never know it where we are.  Just another wet season.  I saw it by watching the news too.

Hi Jan,

Nice picture for comparison.  Yeah, all these areas are quite close.  The movie above with the bridge washed out is at Cedar Flats Road.  That's 14 miles.  The other movie is Black Lake Blvd and Cooper Point Road in West Olympia.  That's less than 10 miles.

All this surrounds us, but we were untouched here because we are not too close to any streams or rivers.  One of the reasons I chose this property.  I have lived here for a long time and I knew what areas are prone to flooding.  Also no hills for mud slides either.  The larger trees are also far enough away in the direction we get the heavy winds that they are not likely to fall on us.

So, we are fine here due partly to luck and partly to planning   ;)

Billions of $$ in damage over most of the Western Washington counties though.  Interstate 5 will remain closed in both directions there at Centralia at least through the weekend.

The waters have receded leaving all the devastation behind.  Recovery will take some time.  I was talking to the guy that came to hook up the propane tank for the shop and he was telling me how busy they were during the whole mess.  He said that there were 18 propane tanks missing.  I asked ho how much those things weigh.  He said about 1600 pounds.  They were just gone.
